NewsLast September, the 1st Sea Kayak Symposium In Greece was held in Xylokastro, a tiny, colorful and picturesque city with a population of roughly 11,000 people. It lies north of Peloponnesus, at the Korinthian Gulf. It is a small town that offers a beautiful beachside with ample recreational facilities and plenty of comfortable accomodation. It's October and while the weather is still warm, higher winds are upon us. Make sure to check with your local guides before doing boat travel by yourselves. The harsher winds may make island hopping a bit more challenging, yet even more fun! On October 28th, get ready for the Ochi Day celebration with it's colorful parades and numerous events. Traffic may be at a standstill and some roads will be blocked so take to the streets and enjoy the pedestrian pleasures of this holiday. All major cities should see a large military parade, while coastal villages can expect naval demonstrations and other waterfront events. Great time to be in Greece, whether in the city or in the cusps of its idyllic beaches. November is the month for clear but cold weather with high winds. Tourists will love their visit because of lowered prices during this time of the year and, while some islands will be closed, Mykonos, Rhodes, Lesbos, Crete, the Ionians, and Santorini, along with several other vacation hotspots offer year-round accomodation and should still offer plenty of fun. Hiking and daytrips are amazing during this time! For artists and people who seek the reflection of solitude, booking in one of the islands will offer you a chance to mingle with the local scenery and soak in the indigenous culture like no other time of the year. Weather can still be warm and sunny on some days, so don't lose hope yet and forget to pack those snorkels and sunscreen. If you don't feel like enjoying the beaches, remember that from November to May, Athens offers more dining, music and shopping experience than anywhere else in the world. Greece is truly a prime destination all year round.
